My $8 Consignment Store Find Has Me Twirling!

Growing up, I was a tomboy. As a child of the 90’s I was into plaid, denim and starter jackets. I often stole my younger brother’s clothes, much to his and my mom’s frustration.

One Easter Sunday, many moons ago, my family had dinner plans at a nice restaurant. We all had to dress up. I wanted to wear slacks and a blouse and my mom insisted I put on a dress. After battling it out, mom gave up on me and basically said I’m not going to be eating dinner with the family. But I was not allowed to stay home alone either. In defiance I shrugged my shoulders, put on my jeans, grabbed a yogurt and a book and joined the family in the van to the dining establishment. Sure enough, while the family feasted on gourmet ham, I was in the back seat pretending my yogurt was creamy mashed potatoes.

Who won that battle? Mama or me?

Fast forward to now. I never thought I’d see the day I’d be hyped to wear a tulle skirt! Hyped, I tell you! I’ve been slightly obsessed with them for almost a year. I even made my own tulle skirt for my birthday celebration in NYC last year. I didn't get to wear it because my friend told me the top I selected to accompany the tutu made me look like a 12 year old girl. #BooHissBoo

Two weeks ago, after work, I strolled into a new consignment shop that just opened up on U Street. I found this tulle skirt on a mannequin. I tried it on and it fit. I loved it! I recall actually twirling in the dressing room.

$8 dollars, y'all!

The weather is warming up and I can’t wait to rock this skirt all summer long. Can’t nobody tell me nothing!
